      Main Description

Identifying a configuration item means that this item identified will be formally controlled thourg the change management sub-area.

Every new product or core asset (or a new release of them) can bring new configuration items to the SPL. The difference between single-system development and SPL, regarding configuration identification, is that not only the items that will be controlled are identified, but its variants as well.

In cases of new releases of products or core assets, this activity must only be performed in there is a major change in the development scope (technology change, great re-factories, etc. ).

      Steps
      Identify Configuration Items
The Configuration Items identification is a step that can be performed with the Guidelines below (How to Identify Configuration Items). All CI identified must be documented inside the ????(SCMP??).
      Identify Variants for each CI
For each configuration iem identified, an analysis must be done to define/identify the possible existing variants for the CI.
Identify if it is a CAD or a PD asset
In this step, it will be defined if the asset will be developed as a CoreAsset or as a Product specific asset.
      Key Considerations
